Joshua Tree When the Government Shuts Down

Written by:

I had plans to go to Joshua Tree last weekend to celebrate my friend’s 31st birthday.  Alas, the park was closed because funding is on hold during the government shutdown.  We decided to bring Joshua Tree to her.  I went on Creative Commons to find some source photos for my drawings.  We placed the following images around the house and made a gave out of it.  This may be one of those, “It’s the thought that counts” situations, though.  Drawing about Joshua Tree is like dancing about architecture…[re: Playing it by Heart].

I drew this in a day, so I didn’t get as lost in the details as would like.  I enjoyed drawing clouds;  I haven’t done so in a while.

Here is a final 16″x20″ version.  (I started as 24″x36″ but my computer got a bit frustrated with all of the giant layers, so I pared down.  Got to love the positives and negatives of digital art!)

I printed different versions of the drawing and close-ups of their different parts on 8.5″x11″ paper to create a puzzle.  Interactive art!

Commenting about art is like underwater-basket-weaving about the dewey decimal system.

Also, the puzzle is a clever idea!
