Some process of my happy/blushing emoji mosaic that I’m still working on. This is one panel of 3, and it doesn’t sync with the other 2, yet, which are on either side. There’s obvious contrast issues, plus I’m not sure how the mirrors are gonna handle the grout…if I grout…maybe I just hope@for@the best and accept palimpsest and decay. Ugh! But! Mostly! yay! Happy emoji! Everything is wonderful!

I’m learning how tiles spread differently than paint. I approached them like they could be the physical shapes I want to interact with after digital interface numbness. Why I started painting in large scales. Tiles/mosaics are a whole new beast, though. Each is unique. Their quantity, size, and color are finite. Their precedent seems to expect pattern, yet I cannot copy and paste them. I do think working with tiles is helping me better understand proportion, symmetry, and composition. So even though I’m a lil frustrated with these tiny pieces of ceramic and glass that take different efforts, materials, and planning than a brush, I’m mostly developing a greater awe and intrigue into their histories and applications.

Lumpy and the black light shows imprecision in the painting and these along with run on sentences are elements important to flower vases and the future
