Play Like A Girl has had a tremendous influence on my art this past year. I know it has been a year because this Saturday is their first birthday party! It started with coloring books and zines and grew into live portraits, black light puzzles, and just last month, my magic keys installation.
This celebration is mixing it up, extending the event onto multiple stages and much later into the night!
I’ve been working on a 10′ wide x 7′ tall hanging black light mural featuring intermingled psychedelic portraits of the featured artists in a surreal city landscape. Small mirrors make up eyes and building windows. On the other side of the mural, I plan to draw live portraits and open it up for others to make notes/doodles of their own. There might be chalking, too.
I’ve gotten better at documenting my progress, and I have a zillion photos to share and ideas on interesting ways to share them! All to come soon! For right now, though, I need to get back to painting! See you Saturday!

This jam-packed party will feature musical performances on both the Echo and Echoplex stages, a comedy stage on the Echo patio, interactive and virtual reality experiences from Super Deluxe, vendors, food trucks, and other surprises throughout the day.
